The Media runs our lives, not the Dictators!

Why do we allow the media to run our lives?

We let the media run our lives because we are scared to run them ourselves. We let them scare us, we let them panic, we let them make us happy, we let them disgust us, but the one they they don’t do, is give us a choice. The UK is heavily based around its news, take the news away, and you have 61 million people without someone telling them what to do. Take away the big news papers, such as The Daily Mail, The Express, The Times, and you have half the population reading doctored news to make it easier to read. Remove the other half, and you have a bunch of intellects walking around panic buying toilet tissue because “their newspaper told them to”.

Lets take a piece of news, and see how three different news sources respond, mainly focusing on their headlines, and how they put the story across to the user. The three news sources I have picked are:

The news article which I have picked is that it is possible that sandwich ham could cause cancer. I know this is a possibly knowledgeable topic, but I am just looking at how each news source reacts, and puts their article across to the reader.

The Daily Mail says: Don’t give children ham, says cancer experts.
The BBC says: Charity seeks end to lunchbox ham.
The Daily Star says: -No Article Found-

As you can see, the Daily Mail has gone for the “we know it will kill you, so we’re going to scare you” style of headline. A lot of people read the DailyMail, and a lot of readers have children, and nearly all of them just read that article, and just ran back to their house to bin the ham, like they have just been threatened with death if they don’t.

On the other hand, the BBC has gone for the “we know what we’re talking about, and our researchers are computers” style of headline. There is no scare-tactic in the headline, but instead suggests that there may be something else involved other than cancer.

Finally, the Daily Star just chose not to publish an article…

So as you can see from just the headlines alone, we let the media decide how we’re going to react, we also let the media decide whether we like or dislike something.

Fucking Retards!

Why are so many companies complete and utter retards?!

Taking the agency ASCAP for example. They want royalties from AT&T for the music ringtons they sell on their websites.1 But wait a minute, if royalties have already been paid on music, why should providers have to pay again to distribute it? Its like to stream music, why should agencies rob small independant stations of the little money they have just because they can. It really pisses me off how people have to pay several times just to stream songs, and then you’re limited to what you can stream.

Another thing that really pisses me off, is UK-Based broadband providers. They throttle your connection during peak times, they throttle your connection when you download x amounts of data. They say its to provide a better service for the rest of the population. You know what I say, fuck the rest of the population, and the ISP’s should provide a better service, with more redundant systems. BT are the worst for this. They throttle BBC iPlayer and YouTube based on how much you use the site, and what time of day you use it. Often, they limit your connection to those services, and have been known to stop transfer all-together. BT are asking BBC to provice them with more equipment to provide a better service, so BT Customers can experience better connection to iPlayer, yet its BT’s problem for using archeological equipment.
Then just to top it all off.. our own government has added a 50p telecoms tax to assist BT with replacing their ancient equipment.

The Publican

Public houses are closing down by at least 5 a week. Man’s after-work watering hole, to a Ladies stop-off before heading into town, or just a once in a while treat for you and your mates. Where would we be without our Pubs? Here are my theories as to why so many pubs are closing down on a weekly basis:

  1. Beer Tax – The Prime Minister, Gordon (I’m a greedy sausage chomper) Brown slams more and more tax on alcohol, not only making it harder for pubs to actually make money, but they get the double whammy from the breweries. The Government put the tax on alcohol up 10p, the breweries put the cost per unit up in a doubly proportionate amount. This punishes the Pubs and the customers in an even higher cost. What Mr Brown doesn’t realise is, that the more tax he puts on Alcohol, the less people spend when out, and the less tax he makes. If he reduces the tax say, by 15p, he won’t be encouraging people to go out, but he will be allowing people to spend more, without suffering the costs. This will allow him to make more. It’s also lighter on the breweries as well.
  2. Smoking Ban – The smoking ban hit the pub trade heavily. It forced people outside the pubs, into a cold and dilapidated sheet of corrugated iron. Who wants to go into a pub, and be forced into a wet and windy shelter, when they can quite happily sit at home smoking cigarettes, while drinking a beer. I know the social aspect is all about going out, having a few drinks and a laugh, but no-one wants to get chilblains while having a smoke in the middle of winter. The beer is cheep enough at the supermarket to just go out, pick up a case of 24 cans, and sit at home. This also leads me onto my next argument.
  3. Supermarkets – These are the Oil Barons of the Liquor trade. They have low and attractive prices which every man and his dog (who really allows their dog a tipple?) to go out and pick up 3 cases for £20. Supermarkets conspired with the Government to get the Smoking Ban enforced, so that the government would benefit from the fines, and the Supermarkets would benefit from the alcohol trade. Asda and Tesco’s have made a small fortune out of the smoking ban, which allows them to buy more stores where no-one wants a store, like in the middle of Loch Ness….

I really do Gordon Brown and his pack of money hungry wolves, coyotes realise that they are the only ones to blame for the damaging of the economy, and if they want to pick it back up before the grind wheel of recession rolls right over, they don’t have much time.

Comments would be appreciative :D
